I am 93 and on Dialysis

I have been on Dialysis since August 31, 2026, it is now 8 Oct 2026.
Originally 3 times a week but reduced to 2 times a week. Even though 93 my health other than Kidneys (Inherited) was very good. Active yet exercising, play golf and other activities. Due to side effects of Dialysis there is only 1-2 days of Quality life a week.. 2 hours after my treatment my blood pressure will drop too 90/50 , no strength or energy and want to pass out. I am considering dropping Dialysis entirely. Go to medication and diet. Any suggestions?

  1. My dad is 93 and has CKD, too. It was recommended that he take medication and continue doing whatever he wants. His caregiver watches his salt. You are in much better shape than he is. We talked about it with him, and he decided against dialysis. I suggest you do whatever gives you the opportunity to enjoy your life fully!

    1. At 93 I suppose you have to admit that you have lived a long life and that the quality of life factors in to what's left. It's a personal choice we all have to make! Just know you are not alone, and if there's anything we can do to help from here please let us know. Keep on keepin' on, DPM

  2. While we can't decide for you we can certainly point you to some of the info we have ton patients who are using diet to help manage their CKD. https://chronic-kidney-disease.net/living/managing-diet Let us know how it goes! Keep on keepin' on, DPM
