High Protein Diets and Kidney Disease

I have been told my entire life how much proteins are important for our human body. But this changes when we have been diagnosed with a kidney condition. The first thing my doctor told me was to be aware of was my protein intake. This was when I got my diagnosis. Although it was in its very initial stage, it was also a good point to start taking caution.

My doctor told me to make me understand the reason behind this. He said that higher protein intake makes our kidneys work even more. When we have a kidney condition, stressing them with more work. This would cause them to burn out eventually. Made sense to me because just like our kidneys when we work more. We get tired more and it becomes more difficult to save our attention.

Finding a middle ground

I found a middle ground where my body could get a good amount of protein, without making my kidneys work more. So, I just shuffled my eating routine with lean proteins by adding fish to my diet. I added in some nuts, vegetables, and fruits. The plan is to get a balanced diet rather than having a diet rich in any particular ingredient.

So, I divided my whole eating routine between raw vegetables and fruits. Substituted processed snacks with nuts and dried fruits, added chicken without skin. Also had low-protein meat with fish, and sometimes lean pork.

It worked out for me as I was not putting my body at risk of having a deficient essential. I was keeping everything in balance. So, the secret lies in having a balanced diet. Having a kidney condition does not mean that you just stop taking in protein. Rather shuffle it with some options which give you enough protein to keep your body healthy. This allows kidneys to function without overburdening them.

Eating a more balanced diet

It also gave me another surprise. After starting a healthy balanced diet, my body also started to look fresh. My skin got better to my surprise. Those little greens did their magic. I was also able to get off of another medication.

My doctor was happy with my progress. My kidneys were working and adjusting greatly to this new routine. It is important to tell you here that my kidney numbers were dropping.  At some point where if I had not chosen to eat healthily, things would have become ugly for me.

This or That

In addition to chronic kidney disease, do you also live with diabetes?

If you are not thankfully having any kidney situation at hand. You are blessed, but take my advice and stick to a balanced diet. If you have a kidney condition, get an appointment with your doctor. Follow their advice as scripture because that will help you in many ways just like it did for me. Take your prescription and diagnosis very seriously from day one. Eat healthily and stay strong because this world is still in need of strong fellas like you. Stick to a very balanced diet. That high-protein diet is going to make your little kidney overworked which you and I do not want.
