Do you have a family history of CKD?

One risk factor of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a family history of chronic kidney disease. Does anyone here have a family history of CKD? If so, did you find it helpful to know someone else with CKD after being diagnosed?

Or on the flip side, do you think not having a family history (or not knowing your family's medical history) made it more difficult to manage or know the signs to look out for?

I'm curious to read about your experiences!

  1. before I was diagnosed in 2009 my great gran went into kidney faliure this was in 2004 and she ended up on dialysis so when I was diagnosed i had a brief idea of what CKD was and knew what to expect going forward.

    1. No. Just myself.

      1. Yes, My mother was CKD in the 1970's and was on dialysis from 1976 to 1988 when she lost her battle for life. This was due to T1 Diabetes a condition I have shared with her for nearly 49 years.
