How does chronic kidney disease impact your exercise?

Hi! I'm curious to hear more about chronic kidney disease and exercise. Has CKD impacted or changed your ability or participation in exercise? What kinds of physical activities do you enjoy? Are there any types that seem to work better for you, or alternatively, some types of movements that are difficult now? Have you found exercise to help as part of your chronic kidney disease management (physically or emotionally)? How do you set yourself up for success when moving your body?

Would love to read more about everyone's experiences with exercise and CKD!

  1. I can't exercise like I used to .I can't use the treadmill anymore because of my knees

    1. Hi

Thank you for sharing, What alternative of exercise do you do instead of the treadmill?, I personally can relate that it’s hard on my knees more, I always thought because of my weak bones but I realise with ckd your body can deteriorate in all different place in your body for all different people, is it the same with you? Feeling like you got to fight extra hard to exercise? It’s something I’m still trying to come to terms with exercising that now vs when I was a lot younger with CKD is a lot different.

      1. I'm the same way. I get tired easily and can't don't get a lot done with exercise but my main problem is eating different

        1. Hi , it is a lot to learn about and it makes sense that this is all unknown territory. I'm sorry to hear that you're doctors haven't shown much concern. Unfortunately, that's not uncommon from what others have shared in the community as well. How have your doctors been before this came up? I good doctor really should be listening to your concerns. If this has been something that repeatedly happens and you have access, it might be worth looking for another opinion. Thinking of you, Minel (Team Member)

        2. Hello , Just wanted to check in and see how you are doing. Did you ever decide to get a 2nd opinion? I was dealing with the same issues you were. I see a new doctor next month. Let us know how you are doing.

      2. Right now I do no exercises but I see a doctor in November hopefully I will get more answers. I'm still flabbergasted

        1. , I hope you will get some more answers from your doctor in November. Also since you mention your knees giving you some issues to exercise. Have you ever considered swimming? Or exercises in the water? It's a bit hard if you don't have access to a pool, but sometimes water can be easier on the joints. Might be something to look into. Best, Minel (Team Member)

        2. Hello , Just checking in to see if you were able to see your doctor last month. We would love to hear from you to see how things went. Please let us know.
