What diet works for those with CKD & Type 2…are there food lists available?

  1. Hi ! Thanks for your question. I hope others can chime in to share what works for them. In the meantime, you might find some of these resources helpful: https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/managing/eat-well/what-to-eat.html, https://health.ucdavis.edu/transplant/PDFs/posttransplant/Renal%20Grocery%20List.pdf (this denotes higher carb foods with an *), & https://chronic-kidney-disease.net/clinical/diabetes-eat.

Of course, your mileage may vary depending on other comorbidities and what stage you are in. So if you have access, a renal dietitian may also be a helpful resource! Hope this helps. Warmly, Minel (Team member)

    1. Hello , this is such a great question. I have several chronic illnesses, so it has been a challenge for me. But, I think I am on the right track. I eat berries, grapes, and apples are my favorite fruits. My go-to veggies are cauliflower, asparagus, onions and turnips. My husband likes to fish - so fish is a must along with eggs. I do eat carbs but in moderation. I drink lots of water and unsweetened tea. I gave up my sweets and sodas, don't know how long that will last, but I'm trying. I lost 60 pounds on this journey and was able to get off of diabetes medication. Of course, we are all different and things affect us differently. I did start by getting a dietician. Have you made any changes yet? Diane (Team Member)

      1. Hello , just checking in to see how you are doing. Were you able to change your diet? We would like to hear from you. Diane (Team Member)

        1. Hello ! I hope this finds you well. Just wanted to check in and see how you are doing. Were you able to find a certified renal dietitian who also treats diabetics? I know there are some out there on Facebook and Instagram who do telehealth. If you can’t find one in your area maybe have a look on social media. Make sure they are certified renal dietitians. CKD patients have such a unique diet balancing everything according to what our bloodwork is saying. Let us know how you are and if you’ve found any answers. Cindy Barton (Team Member)
