My name is Tammie

I was diagnosed with stage 1 chronic kidney disease and I ask my doctors what I can and can not eat and they told me to eat healthy could someone tell me what I can eat and can not eat please

  1. Hello Tammie, Welcome to our CKD community. I am so sorry this is happening to you, and I understand how confusing it must be to be diagnosed with CKD and not have the skills you need.
Unfortunately, we cannot give you the answers you need. But I can give you some ideas. We cannot show you a diet because we do not know your case; that protects you from one of us supplying inappropriate information. Diets are so individualized based on medical history and the progression of your disease that you must talk to your medical professional.
Now in my experience, that might not be your doctor. I suggest you ask your doctor to meet with a nutritionist, dietician, or nurse practitioner who can guide you in setting up a diet plan.
They will tell you, for instance, if you should increase, decrease, or not change the amount of liquid you ingest. They will likely suggest you limit salt, but how much will depend on the status of your diagnosis and prognosis.
After reviewing your records, discussing them with your doctor, and looking at your medical history, they can give better guidance.

    1. Thank you so much I did have kidney cancer but they removed my kidney and now I only have one kidney I have cut out salt and chocolate and potatoes but for meat I only eat red meat and chicken and drink plenty of water

      1. @CommunityMemberafed4e, So sorry you have to go through this. My husband was just diagnosed and they told him to cut out the salt too. I have started buying things that are salt-free. Are you using any kind of salt substitute? Thanks for sharing, Diane (Team Member)

    2. No I haven't I just cut out the salt and sugar

      1. Hi , thanks for your question! I echo what said, diet is very personalized depending on one's health history. Talking with your doctor, and if you have access, a registered renal dietitian, can be helpful.
