My dad is being diagnosed with stage 2 ckd

I’m grasping at straws because I’m honestly scared to death, my dad is my absolute rock and he has stage 2 ckd- found because of a routine blood test he is 59 and has a gfr of 82.

I’ve read so many articles about stopping the progression or slowing it…has anyone had luck with this? Is it possible to stop it on stage 2 ?

Also, i have looked at some of the discussions on here and they gave me hope because google accidentally sent me down a hole when 15 year life expectancy popped up for stage 2… help me please to make sense of this so that I can be there for him!

  1. Hi , my heart goes out to you. It can be very shocking and overwhelming to learn that a loved one has CKD. Luckily stage 2 is considered an early stage of CKD. Finding the right management plan can slow the progression of CKD to live many years. This article talks more about the early stages of CKD, which you might find interesting: https://chronic-kidney-disease.net/early-stage. This article also is about slowing the progression of early-stage CKD: https://chronic-kidney-disease.net/clinical/slowing-progression. Has his doctor been helpful so far?
