I’ve been watching my GFR for many years, probably more than a decade now. A year ago, my GFR dropped 10 points in a 3 month period. My endocrinologist (for type 2 diabetes) sent me directly to a nephrologist. I am at the level where I can turn it around with proper nutrition, fluids & care. The toughest thing for me is I have multiple chronic illnesses, plus mental health issues. I take many medications. My nephrologist is very helpful and wonderful to talk with. It’s funny, we have the same birthday! Same year and everything 😆 I’m happy I was sent to her. She had my vitamin D and parathyroid checked. My vitamin D levels haven’t come up to normal after 8 months of supplements! And I have hyperparathyroid, but normal calcium and potassium levels. I’m weird! I go for more bloodwork in a couple months, after taking the higher doses of vitamin D. It’s good to keep an eye on your GFR, but also to see a nephrologist when your numbers begin to drop rather than waiting until they are too low & unable to reverse.
