How to stop progression

  1. Hi , thanks for your question! Stopping the progression of CKD can be a complex topic and may require some trial and error. Has your nephrologist been a helpful resource? They would know your personal situation the best since everyone's management plan may differ depending on stage, comorbidities, etc. You might be interested in some of these resources: https://chronic-kidney-disease.net/treatment, https://chronic-kidney-disease.net/clinical/slowing-progression, & https://chronic-kidney-disease.net/lifestyle-changes. I hope this helps. Warmly, Minel (Team Member)

    1. My primary care physician has counseled me on the importance of my diet which has moved to basically vegetarian/plant based, no dairy, no red meat, no to low sodium, low protien and phosporous, no processed or canned food. I occasionally eat fresh tuna, salmon or chicken.
Right now I am stage 3 and working hard to stay there. Once a month I have a cheat day where I eat whatever I want--pizza, burger, fries, anything that I have stayed away from the whole month. Very boring and hard to do, but I want to stay at this stage and not progress if I can help it.

      1. Bravo on your kidney diet! Sounds like you've got things in order and know what to watch out for and all. I know when I first found out about a plant based diet for kidneys it wasn't through my nephrologist! I'm so glad to hear you have a very smart and attentive primary care physician. I had to research myself to find the answer. I spill protein so I just have chicken or salmon twice a week and get all my protein through tofu, etc. I do "reward" or "cheat" every once in a while because common we are only human, lol. We have to have that something something that sends all our senses into orbit. I too hope you can stay at the stage you are in for a very long time. Blessings Cindy (Team Member)
