My primary care physician has counseled me on the importance of my diet which has moved to basically vegetarian/plant based, no dairy, no red meat, no to low sodium, low protien and phosporous, no processed or canned food. I occasionally eat fresh tuna, salmon or chicken.
Right now I am stage 3 and working hard to stay there. Once a month I have a cheat day where I eat whatever I want--pizza, burger, fries, anything that I have stayed away from the whole month. Very boring and hard to do, but I want to stay at this stage and not progress if I can help it.
