How Long Will I Live With Chronic Kidney Disease?

Of course, we don't know. If you got this disease back in the day, you might have some concerns.

Of course, this question has crossed my mind but with the medical knowledge and good drugs that we have today, you could live for decades.

Do you ever think about this? Do you know how to slow down this disease?

  1. Unfortunately mine is a genetic mutation that attacks my kidney, I’ve come to terms that nothing can change your genetics so I know it’s a hard I’ll be playing for the rest of my life but that’s okay I alway say I’m just unique lol.

    1. How did you find out that the kidney disease was a mutation? I am very interested in perhaps getting a test done for my children’s health and information. Thank you for sharing this.

      1. Hi How are you? I actually sent a mouth swab of my DNA, parents, and siblings to see if they have the same gene mutation that I and my sister have. After they did the investigation it came back with a full report stating only myself and my twin had it but my renal doctor has again sent my kidney transplant biopsy to the genetics team to see if what happening was the genetic mutation attack it but lucky it wasn’t.

The two options are to send it off directly via mouth swab to a genetics team or have your renal specialist/doctors start the procedure depending on what genetics team is in your state or send it off to another state where other genetic experts are. I hope this helps start the journey with the genetics teams.

Wish you the best of luck.

    2. Was the genetic test covered by Medicare?

      1. I'm sorry I’m not aware if they do it would be best to contact them personally and ask as I'm not from the US I'm from the UK. P.S. You can always ask your renal doctor as well.

      2. Hello , I just wanted to check in and see how you are doing. Did you find out any more information on genetic testing and if it was covered by Medicare? I am on Medicare also and find that they don't cover very much. Let us know what you find out.

    3. I'm 71 stage 3b thinking maybe 8 years to live.

      1. Hello , Did you decide on this number or was it told to you? I am 66 and I am going to live another 50 years, just saying. My father has had CKD for the past 10 or more years. He turned 90 on 3/6. I honestly believe that with today's technology, we can reach for the sky. What do you do to help your kidneys? My father walks every morning. It's a short walk, but he's been doing it for years. I would like to hear more about your journey. Diane (Team Member)
