How and when do you tell the person you are in a relationship with that you have CKD!

This is something i have experienced myself as when i first started talking to my now wife i was very nervous to tell her about my CKD as i was not sure how she would react so i wanted to see if anyone else had any of the same feelings and how they approached the situation?

  1. I personally tend to find relationships and my health a difficult subject, I'm not shy about sharing my condition but I tend to overthink and not grow attachments as i use my health as a need or want to be independent or not wanting to be a burden but i would hope that will change in the future.

    1. Great question!! My husband told me the minute he walked in the door from the doctor's appointment. But we have been together for 26 years. We are all so different and can react in so many different ways. But from a woman's point of view; I think we would want to know right away so that we can be there for you. The first thing I said to my husband was that it will be okay and we will get through this together. I have had several chronic illnesses since 1963, so I understand where you are coming from. The good thing is that as we age, we get wiser and stronger. We are all in this together. Diane (Team Member)
