Embarrassment of meeting up with friend's when you don’t have a job?

I sometimes do not want to meet up with friends because when they talk about work I can’t be involved in the conversation because I don’t have a job, it makes me feels inadequate has anyone else ever had these issues?

  1. Hi , I understand what you mean, it’s very difficult to relate to them but I believe just because your not getting paid, your hobbies and other things you can talk about, I’ve gotten to a point I just don’t even talk about it anymore But I get enough questions from my family when I am getting job, have you been applying, have you got a interview, nothing in the works? All these kind of questions so I just say when I have news you will know until then please don’t keep asking. No one should feel ashamed for not getting paid for work especially when you have a condition like CKD.

    1. I completely agree. I have worked all my life sometimes 2 jobs. Sadly I'm not presently working do to my health and the emotional and mental empact it has taken over me. I know it is not my fault but I do feel ashamed and embarrassed of no longer being employed. We definitely should not. Things happen in life we have no control over. This disease is not our fault. We have to learn how to hold our head up and be proud of the accomplishments we have done and with or without a job we still have more to do and more to give. We are fighters we have to be. Learn how to appreciate and accept the changes and keep going forward.

      1. The shame and embarrassment of not working can be overwhelming. It's hard to think about what you could do in the past vs. where you are at now. I know many people in this community can relate to that feeling. Life with CKD doesn't just affect you physically, it takes a toll on your mental and emotional health. This is important to recognize and take into account. You are spot on when you say that this disease is not your fault and unfortunately it's just the card that you were dealt. Everyone's way of thinking is different but you have chosen not to give up! I really admire your strength and positive outlook on life. You truly are an inspiration for others living with CKD and a reminder that you can keep going even at the most difficult of times. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts. -Kim (Team Member)
