Certified Renal Dietitian and Nutritional Counseling

I hope this finds you well and enjoying all the pre Christmas activities that surround us. With Christmas right around the corner, we all usually start thinking about Christmas Day FOOD, what we can and can't eat. We wonder if eating some of the forbidden items will send our kidneys over the edge and therefore we should just sit at the table with our "safe" food. One way we can know what is good for our particular CKD and our lab report is to consult with a certified renal dietitian. That's easy to say, but then most of us our minds swing to cost $$$. How can we afford this? Well let me share with you this information.

Affording a renal dietitian

📣ANNOUNCEMENT!
Did you know most plans cover nutrition counseling at no cost?

Medicare: covers minimum 2-3 hours (more hours if needed) for anyone who has a diagnosis of diabetes or chronic kidney disease (zero out of pocket cost).

Commercial insurance plans: many cover preventative nutrition counseling which waives the copay and deductible!

If you are unsure about your nutrition counseling coverage with your plan -> simply call the number on the back of your insurance card. Ask if nutrition counseling is covered and if there are any restrictions/out of pocket cost.

This is AMAZING news for all of us. Please check into this valuable, maybe even free, resource where you can find out that burning question…"Can I cheat a little on Christmas Day and eat some of what everyone else is enjoying?" I am so glad that while on Medicare I can get the renal counseling I need. My virtual certified renal dietitian told me she can keep asking Medicare for more time allowed if needed. I'm looking forward to enjoying her guidance for what my menu will look like on Christmas Day. Bon Appetite and Merry Christmas one and all and a Happy New Years 🎄 🎁 everyone.
