Kidney stents

I had two kidney stents placed several years ago to be changed every twelve months. I have a video urology health appointment on the first of November. I will be just on 87 when I am next to have stent replacements. As I live in Indonesia and return to Australia for these procedures I intend to push to just have stents removed rather than replaced. I realize it is impossible to give medical advice regading this but rarely see the same urologist and do not get to speak to the urologist post surgery. Find it hard to get much information about long term stents. Are there any references to which you might refer me regarding "permanent" stents?

  1. Hi I really wish I could help you, I couldn't find much information either. I am hoping you can ask the urologist during your November appointment to see what they think. I hope you can get answers. Jill (Team Member)

    1. Thank you Jill. I expect the advice will be that I must have replacements and not just removals as to say otherwise would contradict the assumptions made by urologists involved in the original decisions. Howev,er, as the patient, I daresay I have the right to insist on just removal. If my decision were wrong then I guess I would soon find out if my kidneys were not up to carrying on.

      1. that makes sense. Please keep us posted on what you decide to do. Jill (Team Member)

    2. Had eGFR, creatine and tumor marker tests today. My condition seems to be steady as my eGFR is 23 and creatinine 221 which is pretty much where I have been for the past couple of years. My PSA marker was up slightly at 0.09 from 0.08 but I understand this is not significant. I had my last Zoladex injection in June and was due again for Sept 4 but did not inject. I am tempted to wait until another test late November and if there is no movement might wait again. I am to have the urologist video chat next week and will pursue the idea of just having stents removed next year rather than wait.

      1. thanks for the update. I am sure that you are relieved that everything is steady. Please keep us posted about what you decide. Jill (Team Member)

    3. Jill Brodie, while I appreciate your responses I am interested to know if your remarks come from medical expertise or if you are basically in administration

      1. hi, good question. We are not medical professionals so we always suggest to our members to talk to their doctors for any advise. Jill (Team Member)
