How do you feel with stage 3b?

I feel like I never get enough sleep . Not sure it is my ckd though. Anyone else feel like this?

  1. We are caught in a cleft stick. On the one hand we are advised to limit our protein intake as damaged kidneys cannot properly process this and it leads to a toxic built up. On the other hand we need protein for energy and the lessened amount of protein being processed means we tend to puff and get tired very easily. Age might have something to do with this but your age is not mentioned.

    1. Hello! Protein is a huge thing with kidney disease especially if you have protein spill in your urine. That is my problem so the normal 3oz of animal protein (no red meat) isn’t good for me every day. I only eat animal protein twice a week and I use organic chicken breast boneless and skinless or wild caught salmon. The other days I get my protein from plants which are easier on our kidneys to eliminate the toxins. The plant proteins that are good are firm tofu (pan seared or air fryer 10g of protein per 1/2 cup), quinoa (8g protein per cup), lentils (8.84g protein per 1/2 cup), chickpeas (7.25 G protein per 1/2 cup) tempeh (15g per 1/2 cup), legumes, beans, nuts, edamame (8.5g per 1/2 cup), brown rice, and lots and lots of veggies. So you can see that you can get the protein your body needs to stay strong. I also take 5mg of Lisinopril to help reduce my protein spill levels. I have managed to reduce my protein spill from 500 to 150 eating like this and taking the Lisinopril. My eGFR is 39 and my creatinine is 1.36 which isn’t bad as the Lisinopril can increase it a little and it’s really only .16 over the normal limit of 1.20.
Let me know if you have tried or are doing a plant based diet with your ckd. I’ve had ckd for years now and this way of eating has kept me stable for three years now. Anything I can do to help my kidneys and lighten their load I’ll try. Keep fighting the good fight kidney warrior 💚 Cindy (Team Member)

  2. I’m 69 years old.But i far around good and try to stay active but this is tough to handle

    1. I am glad to hear that you try to stay active. Where you do find you struggle the most with trying to handle your CKD? Jill (Team Member)

    2. Good Day! I’’m 71 and I try to stay active too. I have found some amazing classes at my YMCA that help keep my body and mind strong. I’ve met new friends there too. I’ve only been going there for 7 months but wish I had started years ago. What do you do to stay active? Do you do any crafts? I love to scrapbook and so I get together with two other friends and we spend 4-5 days at a time scrapbooking.
The only symptoms I have right now are exhaustion due to being anemic and sometimes low blood pressure. So I’m taking iron every other day and my nephrologist told me to skip a blood pressure pill if my bp is lower than 105. This disease isn’t for the faint of heart 💚. We have to stay strong and keep the faith don’t we? Hope you have a good weekend and keep us posted. Keep fighting the good fight. Cindy (Team Member)

  3. Thanks everyone. I stay busy around the house, gardening and for fun love to fish! I don’t eat red meat and my bloodwork is pretty good with just a few things a little off. One thing is my iron level is a tad low and can’t seem to get it up where it needs to be. My problem right now is that it doesn’t ever seem like I get enough sleep. Eyelids always seem heavy. Other than that i feel pretty good. Anyone else feel this way? I just don’t know if it’s my kidneys or something else. Thanks again for the follow ups!

    1. I am glad to hear you have these great hobbies. Unfortunately many of our members will say they do not get enough sleep. I am attaching this article, I hope it is helpful in explaining how CKD is linked to sleep disorders: https://chronic-kidney-disease.net/clinical/sleep-problems. Jill (Team Member)

  4. I have been vegetarian for a little while (about 64 years) so that limits the protein intake. As I write I am waiting for a video-telehealth connection with a urologist in a Melbourne hospital. I am in Indonesia. Last time I waited 3 hours and the session was terminated without getting to speak to anyone. Hopefully this time maybe not so long. These days at just on 86, hard to know if early morning discomfort is just ageing or the kidneys. But life is fickle. My wife's daughter recently had a caesarian premature birth. The poor little bugger was in a humidicrib for about 6 weeks and then passed. The mother only got to hold the baby as it was being bathed and wrapped for burial. Sometimes it seems a small miracle that I am still around as it seems every day people I know or worked with have gone. Went for a swim and walk along the beach yesterday so things not too bad. Enjoy life while you have it.

    1. I am so sorry to hear about your wife's daughter's baby, that is awful. You are so right, enjoy each and every day. Jill (Team Member)
