A Persons Decision To Refuse Dialysis

My grandmother was 85 when she was told she had to go on dialysis, or she would only have 2 weeks to live. They called it right, she was dead in 2 weeks. My father will be 90 in March and they told him he might need to go on dialysis. He also denied the treatment.

I can understand at a certain age you don't want to go through this, but what if you are a young adult? On top of that, you are told you only have a few months to be here.

What do you say to this person who doesn't want treatment? Have you ever been in this situation? Diane (Team Member)

  1. Have you ever refused treatment? If so, why?

    1. When the time comes for me I believe I will refuse. I’m 70 and live alone. I saw how crippling it was for my dad to the point of collapsing. I was there for him because I could be. There is no one who can be there for me. I feel like it would be easier for me to let the natural end of my life happen. I’m only scared of what that means with pain.
