What Will Happen If I Experience Kidney Failure?

When you get a diabetes diagnosis, the most primary thing we all need to be careful about is our heart and kidney health. This is what my doctor tells me every time I go for a visit. Because once we get diabetes, the kidneys function is the one that takes most of the burden.

Being aware of CKD symptoms

Our kidneys are very sensitive. The most important organ of our body is because they take up the whole responsibility of clean-up.  I talked to my doctor about what I need to be careful about to keep my kidneys safe.  My concern was what can be the worst possible outcome if I failed to do so. Of course, the answer was kidney failure.

Obviously, we do not want that but to ensure it does not happen to us, we need to be aware of the signs and symptoms that need our attention. The first and foremost thing to keep kidney failure at bay is diet and lifestyle. Giving up those salty and oily foods is a big plus for us. And we need to keep our bodies hydrated with all the healthy liquids that include just not water.

Kidney disease is no joke

I just want to share with you all, kidney disease is no joke. My youngest son, father, and mother are all in kidney failure. Mom passed a few months ago, not kidney related. The kidneys attack very silently unless we know how to find out if we have a kidney condition at hand is effectively us.

So, for that try getting your kidneys regularly checked. Secondly, keeping our blood sugar level in a healthy range helps a lot. Once kidneys get damaged they only get worse over time, unlike other organs.

Since I was already a diabetic, and living with other chronic illnesses,  it was a risk that I was already aware of. It gets tricky so regular checkups and tests help a lot to be one step ahead. Because if kidneys get out of function it can lead to many other problems. Whenever I was getting really nauseous, or my appetite is gone I would go running to see my doctor and to make sure my kidneys were alright.

Get checked!

Having low energy is another thing that we need to look out for. It might seem like you are just tired but deep down it can be because your kidneys are heading toward failure without us knowing. So, it is better to be safe than sorry. Go get checked.

Watch out for any swelling around your hands, feet, or even face. It can also be a way our bodies are telling us that the water we are drinking is not leaving our bodies. But rather piling up around here and there. I would suggest staying active to keep our kidneys going and yes giving up smoking. Woot!! Woot!! 25 years smoke-free for me. Smoking can cause more damage than anything else.

I made it a habit to keep a watch on my pee routine, especially at night as well as its color. It can be a way of judging how healthy everything is going about in our bodies. My kidney numbers have dropped slightly, but as of right now I only have to see the nephrologist once a year.
